--from Ichikawa in the north to Sodegaura in the south-- make it the

  focal point of general distribution.
Kazusa-Minato Port is located at the mouth of the Minato River in the
southern part of Boso Peninsula, facing Tokyo bay. Designated a regional
port in 1955, plans to rehabilitate the old port as a harbor for small
vessels were put into effect in 1956 and completed in 1962, with new
construction placing the lighter's wharf, landing quay and other
facilities on the right bank of the river mouth. The port now offers
higher safety and is visited by an increasing number of vessels. At
present, Kazusa-Minato serves mainly as home port for small local vessels.
There are also plans to develop the coastline's potential as a beach area.
Okitsu Port is a natural harbor located half-way down the Pacific coast
of the Boso Peninsula. In 1951, Okitsu was designated a refuge harbor,
and in 1953, a breakwater, landing quay, and inclined wharf were built

serves mainly as home port for small local vessels. Work is currently
underway to develop the coastline's potential as a beach area.
Hamakanaya Port is located near the mouth of Tokyo bay, about half-way
down the Boso coastline. After approval as a port in 1955, a car ferry
was opened between Hamakanaya and Kurihama on the opposite side of Tokyo
bay, which contributed greatly to the area's development. In 1978, port
management authority was transferred from Futtsu City to Chiba prefecture.
The port now experiences brisk activity, operating the ferry and shipping
  local sand and gravel.
Naarai Port is located south of Choshi City at the eastern tip of Chiba
prefecture. In 1951, it was designated a refuge harbor, and in 1953, Chiba
prefecture took over management of the port. Beginning in 1965, Naarai was
developed as a local port by building wharves, breakwaters, and coastal
roads. At present, a marina is under construction to develop the coast's
  potential as a recreation area.
Tateyama Port is located at the southern tip of the Boso Peninsula, at the
mouth of Tokyo bay. A natural harbor, it has long flourished as a port for
supplying Tokyo's fish markets. After approval as a port in 1953, Chiba
